Prof. Rob Pearl was born in Cape Town in 1951 and matriculated at Pinelands High School. He obtained his professional qualifications at the University of Cape Town and has been employed in the consulting sector of the quantity surveying profession since 1969

He has actively served the profession on many committees since 1975 and has been an elected member of the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession for 2 terms of office. Rob is a past President of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors. He has also been active in community affairs and is a past chairman of a prominent welfare organisation

He was employed as a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town from 1986 to 1994, when he was appointed as Professor of Quantity Surveying at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal (UKZN). He took early retirement from UKZN at end-2008 and was appointed Professor Emeritus at that time. He remains active in academic circles. Prof Pearl has published widely and has been an appointed member of the Middle East, Near East and Africa Education Standards Board of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He travels extensively, including, in recent years bi-annual working stints in Singapore. He is currently the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) Region 3 (Africa) Director

Rob is a keen sports follower, in his earlier years having played soccer at provincial and national (amateur) levels, as well as having achieved provincial recognition for bowls. He believes his most notable achievement is his marriage to Anne since 1976 – they have five children – 2 daughters and 3 sons, plus 2 grandchildren

Michael Kwadwo Frimpong began his career in Quantity Surveying in 1988, when he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Building Technology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He also gained an Executive Masters in Business Administration with specialization in Project Management at University of Ghana Business School in 2006.

Michael joined the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) in 1996 when he was formally inducted into the Institution. His service in the Africa Association of Quantity Surveyors (AAQS) began as a GhIS Representative on AAQS Council from 2004 to 2005. He was subsequently elected as Vice President of the Western Region of AAQS from 2005 to 2011 and then as President of the Africa Association of Quantity Surveyors from 2011 to 2014.

Michael has always been passionate about education and capacity building of the Quantity Surveying professional and thus took up his first job appointment as a teaching assistant at the Department of Building Technology, KNUST. He has also served on the Continuous Professional Development Committee (2005 to 2011) and the Education Committee (2012 to date) of the GhIS where he has been involved in the training of and organization of the QS Professional Examinations.


As a Quantity Surveyor, Michael worked with Cost Survey Consult (a QS practice firm) from January 1989 to May 1996. Afterwards, he moved on to Vector Morrison (Gh) Ltd (a civil and building contracting firm) where he worked as a Chief Quantity Surveyor from June 1996 to July 1998, a Commercial Manager from August 1998 to November 2008, and then Project Manager from December 2008 to September 2012. Michael Kwadwo Frimpong is now the Principal Consultant of MOKOF Consulting Limited (a QS practice firm), a position he has held since October, 2012.

Michael is blessed with a lovely wife, Henrietta, and daughters, Akua Mirekua and Adwoa Odamea
